This would be the week the Elfreth’s Alley Association and residents of the Alley would be energetically preparing for one of its two primary fundraisers, Deck the Alley. Given we cannot bring this unique and special event to you in person this year, we wanted to share a “gift” of memories of the Alley in winter and from past Deck the Alleys. So, sit back and enjoy our video presentation.
You can see from the images why this little alley captures your attention. When I was invited to consider joining the Board of the Elfreth’s Alley Association, I did not even know anything about the Alley. But I was looking for something completely different from my daily life in the suburbs and career as an auditor. Deck the Alley was the first event in which I participated as a new Board member. I was amazed as I greeted all the visitors that came to the event and saw the pride the residents had taken in their homes. The decorations, the cider, the caroling, the crackling fires inside the homes, and the stories truly made this something special. When I first got involved, I thought I was just helping an organization preserve this charming little street for visitors to enjoy. But after a short time, I found it was much more.
Elfreth’s Alley is not a reproduction of anything, it is a part of the past that is still very much alive. The Alley is our connection to the history and people that have influenced where we are today. I hope you will take some time to imagine the past and reflect on it. You might also consider listening to our podcast, The Alley Cast, which is full of really interesting facts and stories about the Alley. You can find it at elfrethsalley.org/podcast or wherever you get your podcasts.
This little charm in Old City is something so special and meaningful. The Elfreth’s Alley Association is just a small organization but our mission is so much bigger. Every donation, no matter how small, helps us to continue to share the stories and allow people to step into the past. I hope you consider a contribution to our organization or to becoming a regular donor through our Patreon. You can learn more from the details below.
Best wishes for happy and healthy holidays!

Donate Today
We won't lie, 2020 has been rough for all of us - but today we ask for your help. We were closed during our busiest season and our wildly popular (and usually profitable) in-person events we host in June and December had to be cancelled. The Elfreth's Alley Association and our museum need your help. Please make a donation today to support our organization. We keep our expenses low, but we still need to pay the utilities, the insurance, and our one dedicated staff person's salary so we can continue providing support to everyone that knows, loves, visits, and cares about Elfreth's Alley.
Donate here and learn about how the CARES ACT (2020) has increased the amount of charitable giving you can write off.
